    Basic Information
    Name: Mao Feng
    --
    Nickname: No nickname
    Gender: Female
    Age:19
Personality: Pretty relaxed about the goings on in the world, but becomes stubborn and hard headed if something threatens her (or her friends) home, her life or simply peace. A hard worker but bored easily and always doing something. Has a tendency to become mopey and irritable when nothing interesting is going on or when she runs out of things to do, luckily that rarely happens and her work usually lasts long hours.

She gets along better with males since her line of work puts her in contact with quite a few of them and she needs to hold her own with them. She's a bit unsure how to act around typical females, or those from a higher class. Her go to for handling people she's unsure of is to be very quiet and to look politely interested.

When it comes to benders and non-benders she figures they're all people regardless so doesn't treat any one differently from another. She knows about the equalists cause and in some part agrees that perhaps non benders should have more of a voice and some protection when the few benders abuse their powers and cause trouble but dislikes their methods in trying to do so. Then again she also disapproves of the council's silence on the matter; they don't appear to be doing much in Mao's opinion. Even the Avatar seems to be completely lost at times, sure in the end she seemed to come through with last minute stuff but last minute stuff would only work so many times.

The unrest in the city following Amon's demise was putting pressure on a lot of people, Mao included. Some of the non bending miners quit their jobs, fearing for their lives which doubled her workload making her a little short with people when she tried to get in a few hours rest before getting up again. After things began to calm down again a civil war broke out between he Northern and southern water tribes, which often ended up trying Mao's patience all the more, moving around cornered off places in the city and taking long detours to avoid angry water benders or the street gangs making things worse. She came close to losing her job for lateness twice so she slept less or slept at a portable cabin near the mine to make up for lost time, her hard won patience and tolerance reaching an all time low, and with so much time taken up with work there's less time to take out her frustrations with more enjoyable activities. Without her friends at the mine with her she would have blown a fuse, or a wall, weeks ago. Little things start annoying her in unpredictable ways so she began only reading newspapers or listening to the radio on her day's off when she could work out the frustration on chores or swimming at the gym.

    Appearance:
    Mao training:

Mao retains the complexion from her earth kingdom heritage. Her eyes are a muted forest green, and her face still retains some roundness from youth but slowly becoming far more womanly, or it would if she wasn't covered in coal dust and soot most of the time. Her hands are work roughened with short nails from a biting habit. She does scrub up alright, though doesn't own any fancy clothing, having not needed them for anything. Not that she'd mind being invited to a nice place now and then but the time and effort was a bit above board for the time being.

Mao usually dresses in earthy tones and green, her normal gear for just being out and about or lounging at home consists of a pair of cargo shorts in a deep brown colour or longer baggy trousers during winter, usually a green shirt influenced by earth kingdom design, and leather boots all year round. In wet and or cold weather she sports a reddish brown leather jacket lined with wool. For work her uniform, a one piece pretty grey suit with many pockets and a tool belt. Her hair is a deep brown and kept in a ponytail at the base of her neck most days, her eyes are an unclear mix of blue and green, sometimes one will show up more than the other depending on light and colours around her. Her build is quite athletic with hard earned corded muscle from earth bending, pushing or pulling mine carts and of course her frequent gym visits. She's not bulky but she's not willowy or doughy either.

Everything Mao does is done with efficiency with not so much finesse. She walks briskly with a wide gait, she never looks to impress anyone she just likes to get things done, and that comes out in everything she does. If she's waiting she'll slouch or lean against a wall or fence, when pulling up coal from the mine wall she doesn't do it elegantly, she yanks out the coal and quickly seals the wall back up again to prevent cave ins, the once the coal is dumped pushes the cart from behind using her bending to lighten the load but the uphill walk was sweaty and messy business. If it can be done quickly and well she's more than happy to get it done, she doesn't have much of a head for delicate work.

    Character Information

    Bender: Bender
    --
    Element: Earth
    Class: Working class
Career: Mao is a miner, working just outside of the city but will sometimes do odd jobs for the neighbours, such as gardening for those who can afford gardens, or household chores for elderly neighbours.
Loyalty: If asked directly Mao couldn't say for sure her loyalties are to one person alone. She does however consider herself a person for the people of republic city first and foremost and dislikes anything that threatens that.

    Character Background

History: Mao spent her childhood years in Ba Sing Sai with her parents and grandfather. Her parents were both non-benders whereas her grandfather was a well known earth bender, using his talents in the construction business. Her parents had wanted Mao to not be dependent on bending and tried to teach her other ways around things that earth benders could do easily. Her grandfather was a little disappointed by this teaching and taught his granddaughter regardless. He had declared, once her powers began showing, that she should embrace her powers and practice them. They were a gift not to be left alone but to be used to the best of her ability. At that age Mao really didn't understand why her parents argued about her powers with her grandfather, all of them were well known and liked, she knew that, and would try to please both by not using her bending in the house but gladly trained with her grandfather till he retired.

When Mao was ten her parents moved to republic city with her, hoping to give her a better education and to meet new friends in the city. They set up their business there, a small bakery really, and made sure Mao got the education they'd hoped for her. Like most kids school was quite boring and didn't allow bending during school hours to protect the other kids. That didn't stop some of them though, the water benders often had water fights in the playground and the earth benders took over the field. The fire benders were either the most polite or none abusive or they were the school bullies. This started Mao thinking about why her parents didn't want her to bend all the time, she didn't like the bullies and often got herself in trouble for sinking them into the dirt and making them cry and apologize to whoever they were picking on.

Around age sixteen Mao's parents got a letter from friends back home that her grandfather was causing trouble with the Dai Li. He'd gotten quite eccentric in his old age and began acting like a child again, her parents worried it was a sign of poor mental health. For Mao he was just being granddad or pops. It took a whole lot of convincing and a whole week of doing everything in the house from dishes to laundry and finding a job before Mao's parents let her stay in Republic city on her own. They left the apartment to her and closed up shop. After a teary goodbye from her mother and a proud hug from her father Mao was on her own. Well that wasn't completely true, she'd made friends with the neighbours, benders or non benders alike. They offered her some extra yuons for odd jobs that they didn't eel like doing or were too old to do safely.

For the next three years she apprenticed with the mining company and was taken on to full time work after two and a half years. The elderly folk in the apartment building sometimes left her meals for when she got home late at night or invited her to breakfast the next morning. IT worked in her favour since the wages she got just about covered rent and her frequent gym visits. She enjoyed the fussing, though she'd never admit it to anyone else, and the couple living opposite her were always friendly. During her time living alone she sent letters weekly to her parents and grandfather in Ba Sing Sai keeping them up to date with the news in the city, sometimes sending papers with the letters or pictures of herself with the boys from work.

When the avatar breezed into town things got a little more difficult. Almost getting fired, the shorter temper and keeping out of trouble was draining on anyone. Mao did her best to cope and picked up extra hours where she could until she literally fell asleep on her feet, usually halfway home or in the port-a-cabin the miners use for tea and coffee, or the odd sneaky cigarette. If it hadn't been for the boys she'd probably be out on the streets by now.

With her time being taken up more and more by work her social skills started to get a bit rusty. Really the only people she spoke to were the other miners and the elderly couple across the way. However with the social unrest the avatar seemed to bring along with her they began to stop inviting her into their home for meals, though she did sometimes find a boxed meal in her kitchen from them. She was a little hurt by their withdrawal but it couldn't be helped she supposed.

With harmonic convergence over and Mao on the edge of her teens things have almost settled back to normal, but with the abundance of spirits and vines all over the place the commute to work was longer and she was just thankful the mines only had to shut down the almost empty shafts and the others were still free to be mined out. Now that some of the non bending miners had come back she no longer had horrid hours to work, though it would take a while for Mao to get used to having free time again.

Code of Approval: I am a slave to the United Forces and will be punished by Zen if I do not follow the rules.

RP Sample:  The end of shift whistle was always a welcome sound, almost as satisfying as the clickity clack and groaning of the elevator that took the miners back to the surface. Mao sent her full cart up the tracks with a double arm thrust and headed over to the elevator with the others. Sure it stank of coal and sweat but after being in the mine for so long you got used to it. Besides it meant everyone was working hard and that was always a good thing.

After the routine hair ruffling and hat stealing Mao clapped her buddies on the shoulders and took her had back, jamming it on her head a bit lopsidedly making the group laugh heartily. As usual the banter carried on until the gates slid open to let the miners head home for the evening. Some being picked up by spouses or girlfriends, some having to walk into the city. Mao Usually walked, still not having learned to drive anything just yet, one day she'd like to own a Satocycle to make the commute a bit easier, though she wasn't complaining too much about some extra exercise.

The walk back home was pleasant; the air was cool and refreshing on her hot skin. She removed her outer shirt and tied the arms around her waist so she could cool down a little more, remaining in a plain white vest. On her walk she passed the Arena, smiling up at the large building and thinking about what it'd be like to be in the ring instead of listening to it on the radio.

Age - You didnt need to state your own age btw, but nice to see someone in the same range as me into this show.

Personality - Seems rather typical in what most people have of a personality. You also do not mention anything from the spirits/harmonic convergence, which that can also effect your opinion of the avatar. We are well past Amon, so a bit more fleshing out would be preferred. Perhaps your dreams, your drives, you likes/dislikes, etc.

Appearance - You have two paragraphs, the template asks for at least three. Your first paragraph is also only 2 sentences. I am the most hardcore and picky mod person so I apologize in advance.

    History -

Okay here is where it gets a little wonky. Yes, you can be a miner that is fine, we still have miners in the modern world to, so no worries. Please remove the parenthesizes and the comments from within, as well as the pro bender one. You can be a probender when we get the teams made and we actually start doing that. We need a bit more activity first in order to do so ^.^

Now, the part that makes less sense... You live with your parents in Republic City, yet you send your parents notes about Republic City? What ever happened to your grandfather? When you went to visit your grandfather, why did he have to train you in earth bending secretly?

Also, since I think you dont live with your parents (Not sure?) If so, did you just rent your apartment? What happened to you after the equalist invasion? Have the roaming spirits/harmonic convergence effected your life at all? Is there any key defining moment in your life that should be noted in your history? Remember, if you decide to say your past had something happen that effected you, let the profile show it.

Code of approval - Is incorrect. There is actually, in the rules, a sentence that says "Code of Approval: @^#*#*$&#" I need that approval code to approve even if all other qualms are fixed.

Face Claim - You are fine, your own custom work is nice to see. A face claim usually only matters if it is from a show/game so we do not have others using it as well.

Okay, there are grammar and spelling mistakes, though this is your first character and that means you get the easy mod since you have the rest fine. However, second characters get shredded ^.^

SO, one last edit and I will approve.

You said you sand bended in school, and other kids sand bended. Sand bending is a special ability you have to pay for because it is a sub bending skill that not everyone can do. Remove the sandbending and you are free to roleplay.
