Basic Information
Name: Benjiro Riku
--Nickname: Ben or Jiro
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Personality: To many, Benjiro appears to be a normal person with nothing too interesting about him. He is more often then not half-asleep, going through the motions of everyday life, but only because he finds normal life to be boring. While he dreams of going on an adventure, traveling the world, or even getting into conflicts, he just continues living a normal life. Past this sleepy shell of a personality, Benjiro is really quite friendly and outgoing, more often then not jumping for the chance to do something different with his day, even if its just going out for food with friends. Even still though, he is a very relaxed person and tends to more often then not observe things around him, taking in all the details he can.
Its because of his relaxed personality, and sometimes overly tired self, that he never really rushes into situations without first giving himself a moment to think it over. He rarely freaks out about things either, keeping a calm mind as his father taught him through bending. Speaking of bending, Benjiro loves the fact that he can Earth Bend and loves being in situations where he can use it freely. A part of him really wants to live a life of adventure where his bending skills would be needed often, but his life hasn't been full of to many opportunities like that.
There are a few things that Benjiro enjoys, and a few things that Benjiro dislikes. One of the things that Benjiro tends to enjoy is jennamite, the candy crystals a constant snack in the bender's life. Another thing that Benjiro enjoys is technology of the present and the past, enjoying studying them and taking them apart, figuring out how they work. One more thing that Benjiro enjoys, is studying up on many different styles of bending, mostly focusing on Earth Bending, but the other bending styles too.
Benjiro has a few things that really grind his goat, and as few as they are, he really tends to react negatively to these happening. Being woken up, after falling asleep or being asleep for a while, Benjiro is beyond pissed off, tending to withdraw into himself and give the person in question the silent treatment. The Earth Bender also tends to dislike spicy and sour food, both of them really tends to grate on Benjiro's nerves. Benjiro isn't also a fan of people who tend to get into his face for any reason.
Out of the events that seem to have taken place in the last year or so in Republic City, Benjiro only really has one regret. He could have been more helpful in the Equalist movement, but was a little scared and cowardly, and that has filled the bender with regret since. A part of him looks up to the Avatar and her friends, and the fact that she can bend different styles interests him a well. With the arrival of spirits in the world, Benjiro is pretty excited about the change, even if he happens to encounter some spirits who aren't so pleased with the situation.
As of now, Benjiro goes about his day to day duties, hoping, wishing, that he'll be able to take part of an even bigger adventure soon.
Appearance:
For his clothes. Benjiro once again doesn't stand out too much, a simple green shirt with long sleeves and a high color adorns his torso and covers his arms up to his wrists. On top of that, Benjiro wears what might just be his favorite type of clothing, a tan vest with a simple but elegant cloud design on the bottom and a turtle design on his chest, but don't ask him what kind of animal it is. On his bottom half, he wears only a simple pair of dark green pants that might be a bit too baggy for him, but Benjiro cares little.
As for the little things that is a part of Benjiro's appearance, he has several items that some people might seem a little off or different. Wrapped around his ankles, keeping the bottom of his pants away from his feet, are some bandages that are wrapped but not too tightly. This also shows off that Benjiro doesn't wear shoes either or any kind. He also has a pair of glasses that are square rimmed without the top rim. Benjiro also carries with him a muddy green messenger bag that has a few different items within, including a few pieces of jennamite and a couple of gears and wires.

Character Background
History: Benjiro was born in the mountain town of Makapu Village, a small village that was known for a few different things. Mainly, it was considered the hub of all things Fortune Telling, thanks to Aunt Wu back in the day. His Mother, while not widely known, was still a pretty popular Love Life Fortune Teller, and while the pay wasn't consistent, it was what she did for the family. His Father had a slightly more secure job, as he was an Earth Bending Teacher, taking in students from all over to teach them the basics of Earth Bending.
As a young boy, around the age of 5, Benjiro began to show that he too was an Earth Bender, and his Father was over-joyed and took him under his wing. For the first three years of his training, Benjiro was taught the basics, his Father stressed this the most for the young Earth Bender, but soon it became boring. One day, in front of his Father's other students, Young Benjiro complained about only being taught the basics, and even called the training his father was giving him boring. This did not sit well with his Father, and the man took it as an insult to him, his bending school, and his teachings.
The next 4 years, Benjiro's training became much harder, from physical training, spiritual training, and even late night bending. Day in and day out, the youth grew in physical and bending strength, at the cost of him loosing sleep and being pushed to his physical limits. The training had thrown the young boy's sleep schedule out of whack, and whenever he could get some sleep in he would, though he never got enough. At the end of each year, his father would challenge him to an earth bending match, claiming that only when he could land a hit on him, would he let up on training.
In the 4th year of his training, a 12 year old Benjiro got a book about the different bending styles from his Mother, who always comforted the tired youth when he wasn't sleeping or training. Together, the two of them flipped through the book and looked at the different images of different bending styles. Though the book was a brief look, Benjiro was enticed by the different movements and styles that benders used, and began to look into fire and water bending styles moreso. Each style of bending had their own movements, and Benjiro did what he could to incorporate them into his own bending, even if by a little.
When the time came for the duel between him and his Father once more, Benjiro attacked first, his bending movements being a little different. The duel didn't take long, they never really did, but Benjiro was able to hit his Father's leg with a small rock right before he was hit by a stone to the chest. When he awoke, his Father congratulated him and told his son that he would be able to now take the next level in training. What that entailed though was Benjiro able to choose his own training and choose when he wanted to train. The young Bender decided to now spend his time training his stances, mixing in water and fire bending stances as well.
Three more years went by in a pretty uneventful manner for young Benjiro, who now a teenager, began helping out with his Father's school. He did his best to teach new students, mostly young kids like himself, the basics of Earth Bending though also teaching about balance with the other styles. This annoyed his father and eventually he told Benjiro to find another job if he couldn't keep to the normal syllabus. Benjiro, in his search for a new job wondered around town, looking for a place that might be hiring. His search had brought him to an Antique store, where upon sitting on a couch, the youth passed out for a little while.
He awoke to an older gentleman putting a blanket over him, and in embarrassment he got up a little quickly and almost knocked a small doll off a table. After some apologies were shared between the two of them, the attitude of the room shifted toward the doll itself. It was a small tea serving robot, a simple old design based around gears and wind-up clockwork, and instantly Benjiro was drawn in. While he still loved bending, technology now also had a hold on the youth, and within a few weeks he started working at the antique shop. Now and then when he was paid, Benjiro would buy a piece of technology for the sole purpose of taking it apart and studying how it worked.
Between working during the day, and getting bending training in at night, Benjrio's life was pretty normal for the next 3 years, though he never quite got back into a good sleeping habit. It was a little after his 18th birthday that a group of benders decided to team up and head to Republic City to start Pro-Bending. It was then that Benjiro decided that this was his chance to move onto a new place and start his own life, separate of his Father's School or his Mother's fortune telling. After talking with his parents and the Pro-Benders, Benjiro left with them to Republic City, and with a recommendation from his old boss, was able to get a new job in an Antique Store in the city.
When things started to get crazy in the city with the rise of the Equalists, Benjiro kept his bending a secret and spent his free time tinkering with some tech, doing his best to seem like a non-bender, just to avoid being harassed. While he thought it was a little cowardly to do so, there wasn't too much he could have done against their forces in the end. It didn't even seem like that long after that a civil war started between the Water Tribes, but Benjiro didn't really believe that such events effected his life in the city too much, though he did keep an eye on the events. He did witness first hand from the rooftop of his apartment, a battle between two giant beings in the bay of the city. It was then that he started to wonder more about spirits themselves, and once the sun rose the next morning, he would find that his world had changed in a manner, but for the better?
Code of Approval: Code of approval: I am a slave to the United Forces and will be punished by Zen if I do not follow the rules
RP Sample: It was just another day for Benjiro, a rough morning getting out of bed, followed by a brief shower and a breakfast of eggs and toast. Now, Benjiro wasn't really much to complain about too much in life being half-asleep most of the time, but now and then things tended to annoy him, just a bit. Standing in front of him, or floating, was a strange red faced spirit that seemed to be complaining to him about something or other. Staring at the spirit, a little annoyed at it getting right in his face, Benjiro put one of the pieces of toast into the spirit's mouth and walked out of the room, hearing the spirit grumble through a full mouth.
Out on the street, things were just about same as always, the vines and trees from the convergence making the streets relatively clear of any motor vehicles. This Benjiro liked, making crossing the street easier and much more simple over-all, minus having to climb over the different sizes of vines of course. Stretching out a little bit, popping the hard boiled egg into his mouth and downing it with a bit of water. A rough hand grabbed his arm and pulled the sleepy bender into an alleyway, disorientating him a little bit.
"Give us all your money, now!" A voice said, Benjiro focused on the source of the voice. A masked man with a knife stood before him as another masked man stood behind him, looking out toward the street. "I have a water bottle, would that do?" Benjiro asked, more awake now and not really in the best of moods. "No! I said money! Now!" The voice demanded quietly. With an angry grumble yet excited grin, Benjiro reached down to his pocket, but instead slammed his hand on the wall. In an instant he moved his head to the left, and a brick flew out from the wall where his head was a moment before. The piece of earthen building material slammed into the face of the mugger, knocking him back and knocking him unconscious.
Pushing off the wall, bringing with him a chunk of four bricks, Benjiro smiled to himself as he held them in one hand and began to slam his hand into the chunk of wall multiple times. Several small chunks of bricks flew at the other mugger, knocking him back each impact. Walking out onto the street, Benjiro tossed the remains of the wall chunk into the air and struck the back of it with both hands, sending it flying into the mugger and knocking him off the ground. Feeling a little better, Benjiro pulled out a piece of Jennamite and took a bite of it, walking toward work as if nothing had happened.
"Now... if only stuff like that could happen a little more..."
